From a link

Paste a YouTube link, get the sheet music

A piano video becomes a piano score. A song becomes a lead sheet: its melody with the chords. TikTok and Instagram links work too, and so do files from your phone.

  • YouTube, TikTok and Instagram links
  • Videos up to 15 minutes
  • Free preview of every song

What one link gives you

A piano score

From a piano video: two staves, both hands, with the rhythm, the meter and the key.

A lead sheet

From a song: the melody with its chord symbols, and a Complete view with the second line and the bass.

A MIDI file

The notes for your DAW or another app. In Piano mode, each hand has its own track.

Falling notes

Watch and hear the transcription on a keyboard, slowed down if you like, with 3D hands on a piano score.

Corrections

Fix the wrong notes of a piano score in the editor before you print or export it.

PDF and MusicXML

Print the score, or keep working on it in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico.

How to turn a YouTube video into sheet music

Four steps, and nothing to download:

  1. Copy the link

In the YouTube app or website, tap Share, then Copy link. Shorts work, and so do TikTok and Instagram videos.

  2. Say what it is

Choose Piano recording for a piano playing alone, or Song for vocals or a band. That choice decides what Ivory writes.

  3. Paste it and start

Ivory fetches the sound of the video and transcribes it. It takes a few minutes, and the song waits for you in your library.

  4. Read, play, download

Open the score, play it back, and download a PDF, MusicXML or MIDI. A piano score can be corrected in the editor first.

Piano videos become piano scores

Ivory's Piano mode writes down every note of a piano video, both hands, and engraves a two-staff score with its rhythm, meter and key. You also get the MIDI file, and the falling notes to learn from. It is made for your own performances, pieces in the public domain, and videos whose owner allows it.

Read how the transcription works on AI piano transcription, or learn the piece in the player with falling notes and 3D hands.

Songs become lead sheets, with the chords

For a song with a singer or a band, a full piano score is not what you want: it would be a pile of notes from every instrument. Ivory's Lead Sheet mode (in beta) writes what a musician reads to play a song: the melody on one staff with the chord symbols above it, and in the Complete view, a second line and the bass line.

More on lead sheets, or on finding the chords of a song if the chords are all you need.

TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts

A lot of music is heard first in a short video. Paste the link of a TikTok, an Instagram reel or post, or a YouTube Short the same way as any video: Ivory only needs the sound. A short clip is also the quickest way to try Ivory.

Which videos work best

The transcription is only as good as the sound of the video:

  • The right mode for the music: a piano alone for Piano mode, a full song for the Lead Sheet mode.
  • Clean sound: a video recorded with a good microphone beats a phone filming a speaker.
  • Little talking over the music: speech can turn into stray notes.
  • Under 15 minutes: for a long concert, use a video of the one piece you want.

Your rights

Transcribe only what you are allowed to use: your own playing, music in the public domain, or a recording whose owner allows it. Before every transcription, Ivory asks you to confirm that you are authorized to make a digital and modified version of the audio. Publishing or selling a transcription of someone else's song usually needs permission from whoever owns its rights.

Frequently asked questions

Without a credit, every transcription is a free preview: the first 8 bars of the score and the first 30 seconds as falling notes. One credit transcribes the whole song and unlocks its downloads: a subscription (€8.99 a month) includes 100 songs a month, and a single credit costs €3.99 and never expires.

Yes. Every transcription comes with a MIDI file next to the score. In Piano mode, the two hands are on two tracks.

Yes. Ivory takes links to YouTube videos and Shorts, TikTok videos, and Instagram reels and posts.

Under 15 minutes. Files you upload can be up to 10 minutes long.

Choose Song before you start. The Lead Sheet mode (in beta) writes the melody and the chords, where Piano mode would hear the whole band as a piano.

No. Paste the link and Ivory fetches the sound itself. If you already have the audio file, you can upload it instead.
